The Incident, After This, Things Will Never Be the Same Again

Artist:Porcupine TreeLabel:Roadrunner
Format:DVD-AudioRelease Date:14/09/2009
Description:The centre-piece is the title track, which takes up the whole of the first disc. The 55-minute work is described as “a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again’.” The self-produced album is completed by four standalone compositions that developed out of band writing sessions last December - Flicker, Bonnie The Cat, Black Dahlia, and Remember Me Lover feature on a separate EP length disc to stress their independence from the song cycle.

Reviews
The Incident
If Porcupine Tree do not gain massive acclaim with this album then the music world needs to be examined very quickly and very thoroughly. [Matt D @ altsounds]

The Incident
Once in a while, an album comes along that is so captivating and rich in its complexity and musicianship that one has to stop and play it over and over again, just to put into words why they like it so much. In the 70’s, when the concept album was a thing to be appreciated, a lot of classic bands delivered albums in such a fashion. [The Burning Disc]

The Incident
Porcupine Tree seems to possess that special quality of playing precisely the things that you want to hear in a song without ever getting predictable. Steven Wilson is a masterful composer who has understood more than perfectly the essence of making music: producing pleasant sounds and concatenating them into an enjoying time. Anybody who pretends to care about music should possess a copy of ‘The Incident’. [Lords of Metal]

Time flies when they're having fun...
Porcupine Tree has always been about exploring the resonance and echoes found within Steven Wilson's subconscious. After witnessing a road accident, Wilson was prompted to construct an ambitious song-cycle exploring the numerous associations which this initial incident triggered.

Sewn together into one continuous 55 minute stream the end result is a series of multi-layered perspectives which spiral beyond the inciting event into a dark kaleidoscope encompassing bogus gurus, break-ups, betrayals, and all manner of bad blood. [Sid Smith's Postcards...]
